Who is responsible

This website is run by Abel Avilés Romá (Abel Aviles), Germany. For any question about your data, write to hello@abelaviles.com.

What this site collects

This is a personal website. It has no contact form, no comments, no newsletter and no user accounts. Cookies are set only if you allow Google Analytics. Personal data is only processed in the cases below.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., USA. When you visit a page, Vercel’s servers automatically record technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, date and time, and your browser type. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure; the legal basis is my legitimate interest in a working and secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are kept only for a limited period and are not combined with other data.

Data may be processed in the USA. Vercel Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Analytics

To see which pages are useful, this site uses Vercel Web Analytics. It works without cookies and does not store IP addresses: a visit is recognised only by a hash of the request that changes every day. I see aggregated figures only, such as page views, referring sites, countries, device and browser types, and a few events like downloading the CV. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Google Analytics (only with your consent)

If you click “Accept” in the banner, this site also uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, to understand which pages are read and which links are used. Until you accept, the Google Analytics script is not loaded, no request goes to Google and no analytics cookies are set. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG).

Google Analytics sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID> for up to 2 years. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google signals and advertising features are turned off. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw it, tracking stops and the analytics cookies are deleted. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before it.

Storage in your browser

The site saves small entries in your browser’s local storage, and only when you use the matching feature: your light or dark theme choice, your progress in the page’s small hidden game, and your answer to the analytics banner with its date (so the banner returns after 12 months). They stay on your device, are never sent to a server and are not used for tracking. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

Because they are stored only to provide a function you asked for, no consent is needed (§ 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).

Email

If you write to hello@abelaviles.com, the email forwarding service ImprovMX passes your message on to my Gmail mailbox (Google). I use your address and message only to reply, based on my legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, where it concerns a possible contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Both services may process data outside the EU.

Fonts

All fonts are served from this site itself. Your browser makes no requests to Google Fonts or any other font service.

External links

The links to LinkedIn and Xing are plain links. Nothing is loaded from those services until you click one; after that, their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. To exercise these rights, write to hello@abelaviles.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence, your place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.
